On 21st of May the seminar on “Actual issues on implementation of the 3rd and 5th Articles of the Convention on Human Rights” was held by Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Sheki Court Complex. Welcome speech of the seminar, participated by the judges of the Ganja Court of Appeal, Sheki Court of Appeal, Shirvan Court of Appeal and judges of the courts of first instance which is under jurisdiction of above mentioned courts, was made by the Head of Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan mr. Shahin Yusifov on importance of review of 3rd and 5th Articles of the Convention and the Judgments of the European Court on Human Rights against Azerbaijan on violation of the abovementioned Articles of the Convention.
The head of the Human Rights and Public Relations department Kamala Aliyeva and the leading adviser of the same department delivered a speech at presentation dedicated to definitions of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and concerning the reviews of the Judgments of the European Court on Human Rights against Azerbaijan on violations of the 3rd and 5th Articles of Convention. Thereafter the Head of Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court Shahin Yusifov addressed a speech on a topic on “Emerging challenges in national trial concerning the claims of torturing and extraction of confession by means of torture”.
In the second part of the seminar senior adviser of the department Nargiz Odjagverdiyeva and the adviser Suleyman Aslanov addressed the speech at the presentation regarding violation the rights to liberty and integrity and on discussions of the decisions against Azerbaijan. On the seminar the judge of Ganja Court of Appeal shared his thoughts regarding “emerging problems with arbitrary detention, long lasting pre-trial detention”.
Speakers at the seminar chairman of the Sheki Court of Appeal Mubariz Akbarov, Ganja Court of Appeal Tapdlq Mahmudov and chairman of the Shirvan Court of AppealRashadat Agayev shared their opinions with seminar participants by delivering the speech.
Exceptional cases were decided on the seminar along with the Q&A Sessions.
