Legal Advisor at the U.S. Embassy visited the Supreme Court

New Resident Legal Advisor of the Department of Justice at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Mr. Eric Peterson met with the Chairman of the Supreme Court Mr. Ramiz Rzayev on October 14, 2011.
During the meeting Chairman of the Supreme Court informed the visitor about the structure and activity of the Supreme Court and also noted that Azerbaijan successfully cooperates with many developed countries by international organizations in the legal sphere. The highest legislative principles are acted in Azerbaijan. The International legal acts, particularly the provision of the European Convention “for the Protection of human rights and freedoms”, a case law of the European Court of Human rights are studied carefully in Azerbaijan. The decided adjudications are coordinated with the European standards. The latest information technologies are used in the judicial system.
Chairman of the Supreme Court noted that he was very pleased with the established cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and the United States of America and said that this cooperation would have beneficial results.
During the meeting New Resident Legal Advisor of the Department of Justice at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Mr. Eric Peterson spoke about the expansion of the joint fight against financing the corruption, human trafficking, money laundering and terrorism, as well as collaborative opportunities in the area of strengthening of judicial independence and abilities of judges. He said that holding of different exercises and workshops was provided for that.
