Inam Karimov Participates in the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Asia-Pacific Region

Delegation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, headed by its Chairman, Inam Karimov, participated in the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Asia-Pacific Region, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea on 16-18 September 2026.

Within the framework of the Conference, participants discussed a range of pertinent issues, including the role of the judiciary, the use of artificial intelligence in the judicial and legal spheres, the adaptation of judicial training and education to contemporary challenges, strengthening public confidence in the judiciary, relations between the judiciary and the media, safeguarding judicial independence, the development of arbitration, as well as other topical matters.

Inam Karimov delivered an address during the session entitled “The Role of the Judiciary – Different Perspectives from Different Jurisdictions.” In his remarks, he briefed the participants on the judicial and legal reforms being implemented in Azerbaijan and on the ongoing development of the country’s judicial system in response to contemporary challenges. He also highlighted measures undertaken to safeguard judicial independence, enhance the efficiency of the administration of justice, and broaden access to judicial services. Particular emphasis was placed on the important role of international cooperation in addressing the contemporary challenges facing Azerbaijan’s judicial system.

The session also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the experience of different national judicial systems, the role of the judiciary in contemporary society, and the challenges confronting judicial institutions.

During the visit, Inam Karimov held bilateral meetings with Jo Hee-de, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea; Aigars Strupis, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia; Petr Angyalossy, President of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic; and Ömer Kerkez, President of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Türkiye. The meetings focused on the development of cooperation in the field of justice and law, the expansion of mutual exchange of experience, the further advancement of judicial systems in line with contemporary challenges, and prospects for future cooperation.
