The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council visited Strasbourg

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council Inam Karimov paid a working visit to Strasbourg, France.
 

Inam Karimov held a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights Ms. Siofra O'Leary. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court informed Ms. O'Leary about the reforms carried out in the judicial-legal field and about the scope of the accomplished work in increasing the efficiency of justice in Azerbaijan. He stated that Azerbaijan places special value to the expansion of professional relations with the institutions of the Council of Europe, as well as cooperation in the judicial-legal field with the member states of the Council of Europe. It was noted that Azerbaijan had ratified Protocol No. 16 this year and it will enter into force on November 1. It was stated that this Protocol would allow strengthening of the cooperation between our courts.

The cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Court was highly appreciated and the necessity of joint action in the further development of these relations in the future was mentioned. The projects carried out within the framework of cooperation with the European Court and the importance of holding joint seminars, conferences and exchanging mutual experience were raised and discussed.

In addition, Inam Karimov participated in the seminar "Judicial dialogue through the advisory opinion mechanism under Protocol No. 16" held with the participation of the Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Member States of the Council of Europe. At the event held on the fifth  anniversary of the entry into force of Protocol No. 16 of the European Convention on Human Rights reports about the study of the direction of the advisory opinion mechanism, the preparation of relevant guidelines and the measures to be taken in this area were heard.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court held bilateral meetings with his colleagues within the seminar and effectively exchanged ideas on issues of mutual interest.
