Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in the workshop dedicated to the opening of the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights, held in Strasbourg.

            Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in the workshop dedicated to the opening of the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights, held in Strasbourg on 30^th of January 2015. Around 260 eminent figures from the European judicial scene have attended a seminar.

         The theme of the seminar was “Subsidiarity: a two-sided coin?” Chairman of European Court Mr. Dean Spielmann  welcomed all the participants and passed word to Ms. Julia Laffranque, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights elected in respect of Estonia. After that, Mr. Sabino Cassese, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Justice of Italy, Ms. Angelika Nubberger, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights elected in respect of Germany, Mr. Jean-Marc Sauve, Vice President of the French Conseil d`Etat, and Mr Paul Lemmens, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Belgium represented their report to the quests and answered the questions.

Official opening of the judicial year ceremony started after the workshop. Representatives of judiciary world and national and local authorities heard speech of Chairman of the European Court Mr. Dean Spielmann, who mentioned the dynamics of reviewed and pending cases,  the results of the reform of the Court, and the importance of Protocol 16 for developing dialogue between  the judges. He also underlined the most significant cases in 2014. The next report was made by Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Spain Mr. Francisco Peres de los Cobos, who talked about the role of Convention in protecting of Human Rights and about multi-level protection of these rights.
