The Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors met with the Chairman of the Supreme Court

On May 14, 2012 the Chairman of the Supreme Court Mr. Ramiz Rzayev met with the Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors Mr. Derk Kuipers.

During the meeting the Chairman of the Supreme Court spoke about judicial system of Azerbaijan, structure and activity of the Supreme Court and also noted that Azerbaijan successfully cooperated with many developed countries by international organizations in the legal sphere. The European Continental Judicial system is applied in our country. The International legal acts, particularly the provision of the European Convention “for the Protection of human rights and freedoms”, a case law of the European Court of Human rights are studied carefully and refer to. The decided adjudications are coordinated with the European standards. The latest information technologies are used in the judicial system.

Chairman of the Supreme Court stated that Azerbaijan with its population was a country where the lowest number of crimes registered. The occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia makes the operation of military courts more necessary. Chairman of the Supreme Court expressed his contentment with the cooperation of the International Association of Prosecutors with the Office of Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors Mr. Derk Kuipers spoke about his 2-day acquaintance with our country and expressed his satisfaction with the rapid development of our country and the hospitality of people.

The Secretary General of the Association noted that from 1998 the Office of Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Military Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan are the members of the International Association of Prosecutors which was established in 1995 and brought together more than 100 countries. Azerbaijan with its 200 individual members provides us with greater support. Web Site of the Association helps millions of prosecutors to communicate with each other easily. The joint fight of the International Association of Prosecutors and Office of Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan against the transnational crime, particularly drug trafficking, money-laundering and fraud is necessary and this fight will lead to more effective results in future. The Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors familiarized with an administrative building of the Supreme Court and working conditions of judges.

At the end of the meeting the Chairman of the Supreme Court expressed his gratitude to the Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors Mr. Derk Kuipers for a special attention and interest to judicial bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan and wished the best regards in his further work.
